Things hadn't been going well for Toby and Spencer since even before the girls were being hauled off to jail. Toby didn't know what Spencer had gotten up to in her free time, and he honestly didn't care. At the end of the day, it was him who was there to hold her when she got out of that... place. It was hopefully him that she would choose. Since then, things have been better, but he wondered if he was trying to smother her to much. He didn't want to let her leave his sights most of the time. Granted this wasn't always possible, as he had to sleep and work, and she had to go to school and sleep, so they couldn't be together 24/7, but the rest of the time he tried to be there for her.
She hadn't yet really talked about all of what happened to her down there, and that was ok. Toby wasn't gonna force her to talk about anything she wasn't ready to talk about. As long as she was talking to someone, it was ok. She had plenty of choices, friends, family, to talk to, though part of Toby wished he could be the one she opened up to. They hadn't really had a romantic night in quite awhile, they spent time together, but they mostly just sat on the couching watching something and holding each other. Tonight, Toby wanted to make her dinner, realizing he wasn't a good cook, he decided that he would instead get takeout from the Grill for them and have a romantic candle lit dinner. He was glad he was off duty. He stood at her back door, cause he never used the front door, and knocked gently on the glass waiting for Spencer to answer the door.

Spencer had ran into Hanna this morning, and it just brought back all kinds of memories she didn't want to deal with. She didn't want to shut her friends out, but what was she supposed to do? She needed to smooth things over with them, and they with her, but it was a touchy subject. All of them together... that's what had caused all of this in the first place, hadn't it? She had skipped her first class today, but went to the others. She had only been home for about twenty minutes when she heard that familiar knock on the back door. She couldn't help but let a huge smile grow on her face as she ran down the stairs, quickly moving to the door and opening it. "Toby, hey," she said, her voice filled with relief. Toby was someone she associated with rescue, with safety. She stepped forward, immediately planting a kiss on his lips before pulling away, but only slightly. "Come on," she said, reaching to grab his wrist and gently pull him into the house. @toby

Toby smiled when he saw the look on Spencer's face. It was clear that she wanted him there right now, for that he was grateful. He really didn't want to have to carry two meals back to his apartment and eat alone cause she wasn't feeling up to having his company today. "Hey, Spence." Toby replied as she opened the door and greeted him. The kiss didn't last nearly as long as he wanted it to, but that was ok, hopefully they would have plenty of time later for that stuff. First, he knew they had to talk. He knew she probably had some things on her mind, and he was there to listen to them if she wanted to share, though he wasn't gonna force it on her.
As she led him into the house, he smiled. "I hope you are hungry." Toby said, he knew that a homemade meal would be much better, but Spencer knew he wasn't good at cooking anyways so he hoped this was good enough. Setting the bags of food on Spencer's counter top, he reached over and pulled her to him. "I love you." He said kissing her on the cheek. He knew that she found it incredibly frustrating when he went alpha male on her, but that only made him want to do it more often.

Spencer nodded as he said he was hungry, watching him set the food on the counter. All she wanted was to cuddle up with him, but she knew eating was necessary. As he reached over, she caught herself stifling a giggle as he pulled her in and kissed her on the cheek. Spencer didn't care about her strong pride at the moment, she was broken and there was only one person that could fix her. She wasn't going to let her pride get in the way of that. Not yet, at least. "I love you," he replied, turning her face to meet his lips. Getting carried away a bit, she clasped the front of his shirt and pulled him even closer until she had to lean back on the counter top for support. Eventually, though, she had to pull away again. "So, how was work?" she asked, ducking out from his arms in order to move around the counter, pulling the food out of the bag and placing it on the counter top. @toby

He wished that moments like this had happened more often between him and Spencer a lot more recently. With everything that had been going on, it felt like their relationship had taken a back seat. It was partially Toby's fault, but it was also Charles' fault. He wanted to find that guy and put an end to him one way or another. Spencer had never said a word to Toby about what happened to her and the other girls, and that was ok, if she wanted to open up about it, she can, and Toby did his best to make sure she knew this already. Including this moment. However he was glad that she pulled away from him, because it was the only thing that was gonna stop them from going farther, he also wished she hadn't. He wanted to be in her arms right now, he wanted things to be the way they once were.
He smiled. "It was ok." Toby said with a shrug. He didn't tell her what happened, but if she asked about anything in particular, Toby was gonna tell her. He decided that he was never gonna leave Spencer in the dark about his police work again. "How was school and where is today's Aced test so I can put it up on the fridge?" Toby teased her a little bit, that was one thing they didn't do nearly enough, tease each other. Toby decided to help her unpack the food. Toby knew his way around the Hastings kitchen by now and retrieved a couple of plates and forks for them so that they didn't eat with their bare hands.

Spencer didn't miss the 'okay'ness of work. She wasn't going to ask about it just yet though. She rolled her eyes as he brought of the 'aced test' that needed to be placed on the fridge and leaned toward him as he passed her with dishes, kissing him on the cheek quickly, "It'd be much better to hang things on a fridge of our own, you know," she didn't realize how incredibly forward that was until after she had said it... but then again, Spencer was nothing less than forward. She looked away from him, scooping the food onto plates, "I mean, I'm thinking of moving out soon. It's just... I need a new place," and she really did. After everything that had happened, she needed a complete reset. Out of the country would be nice, but just a simple apartment was a lot more realistic. @toby

Toby really couldn't help but tease her a little bit. He wanted Spencer to feel that things were returning to normal, well as normal as things ever were in Rosewood. There always seemed to be some kind of threat running around trying to ruin their day. Things were so much better when Spencer was worrying about some test instead of when Spencer was worrying about whatever madness A cooked up for the that week. Plus it got an infamous Spencer eye-roll out of her, which was a sort of bonus in Toby's book. He had not been expecting what came out of her mouth next however.
It was really subtle... ok not really, then again no one ever accused Spencer of subtly before. She then tried to play it off as if she was just wanting to move out of her parents place and into her own space. "Spencer..." Toby began looking at her seriously. Then again, Toby almost always looked serious it seemed. It seemed only Spencer was able to bring out his playful side. "...Do you want to move in with me?" Toby asked her as she busied herself with the food. "Because if you want to, then I want you to as well." Toby told her moving around the counter. "I will even help you pack myself." Toby offered. He couldn't say he had never though about asking Spencer to move in, he just didn't think she wanted it right now. It would be a good thing as far as he was concerned, it meant they can spend more time together.

Spencer looked up at him through her eyelashes, an innocent look crossing her face as he spoke her name seriously. The look to anyone else may have looked identical to his playful face, but Spencer knew the difference. She could see the subtle changes that lined his eyes, his lips, his cheekbones. As he asked if she wanted to move in with him, she felt her heart pound three times louder. Did she? Hadn't she just suggested that? She went back to the food for a moment, trying to look busy when he went on to say that he wanted to. As he moved around the counter to her, Spencer lifted her hands from the food, turning toward him square on. "Toby," she said, lifting her hands to wrap them around his neck and shoulders, "that's exactly what I want. It's what I need. Not that I want you to think I'm using you," she shook her head, "but I need you. All the time."
